Frequently Asked Questions
What is dry eye?
Dry eye is when your tears do not keep the surface of your eyes comfortable and clear. It can be due to low tear volume, poor tear quality, or both.
Why are my eyes watery if I have dry eye
Watery eyes can be a reflex to dryness. The eye produces more watery tears that do not fix the underlying issue.
Why do women over 45 have more dry eye
Hormonal changes can affect the oil layer of tears. Evaporation increases and eyes feel gritty or sore.
How is Dry Eye Care of Michigan different
As a dry eye specialty clinic, we focus on treating the underlying cause – not just managing symptoms with temporary solutions like drops.
What happens at the first visit
We listen to your story, run focused tests, review results together, and map your next steps.
Do you take insurance
Some services can be submitted to insurance. Many patients use HSA or FSA funds or WEX. We can provide a summary for your plan.
Will I need prescription drops
Some patients benefit from prescriptions. Others do well with home treatments and an in office routine. We decide together based on test results.
How long before I feel better
Many patients notice improvement after their first treatment. However, dry eye can have many contributing factors, so results may vary from person to person. Most patients achieve the best results by completing the full series of recommended in-office treatments along with consistent at-home care. If outside factors such as medications, health conditions, or environmental exposures are contributing to symptoms, we work with patients and their healthcare providers to help them feel as comfortable as possible.
Do I need a referral
No. New patients are welcome. We will coordinate with your current eye doctor if you wish.
